Sharing your group outside Orbit
Last updated
Your group's invite link works like any normal web link, which makes sharing it outside Orbit straightforward.
Sharing the link
From your group, tap the share option to open your device's native share sheet through the Web Share API, letting you send the /j/{token} link directly to WhatsApp, other messaging apps, or social platforms.
What people see when they open it
The link opens a public join page showing the group's name, cover image and description. If the person isn't signed in, they're prompted to sign in or create an Orbit account first.
For paid groups, the join page also shows the available plans and checks that the person has enough coin balance before letting them pay and join.
Things to keep in mind
Since the link works for anyone who has it, sharing it publicly means you lose some control over exactly who joins — regenerate or disable the link later if that becomes a problem.
Frequently asked questions
- Do people need the Orbit app installed to open the link?
- No, the join page works in a regular mobile or desktop browser; installing the PWA is optional.
- Can I share a paid group's link the same way as a free one?
- Yes, the sharing mechanism is identical; the join page simply adjusts to show pricing for paid groups.
- What happens if someone without enough coins opens a paid group's link?
- The join page shows their current balance against the price, so they can see they need to top up before they're able to join.
