Searching for groups

Group search matches names and descriptions, ranked by relevance combined with recent activity. Short, specific terms tend to work better than full sentences.

Searching for people

You can look up a username directly to view someone's public profile. Usernames are matched exactly or by close partial match, and results are not case-sensitive.

Searching inside a group

Within an open group, search lets you jump to a past message by keyword instead of scrolling. This only searches messages in that group, not across every group you belong to.

• Searches text content, not media captions or filenames
• Only covers the currently open group
• Tap a result to jump straight to it in the timeline

When search comes up empty

If a group or person does not appear, double-check spelling and try a shorter version of the name. Private profiles or groups that restrict discovery may also not surface in general search.

Can I search across all my groups at once for a message?

No, in-chat search currently works within one open group at a time.

Is username search case-sensitive?

No, you can search a username in any letter case and it will still match.

Does search show groups I am not a member of?

Yes, discovery search includes groups you have not joined so you can find new ones.
