Promoting your group and finding your first members
Last updated
A new group starts with no ranking advantage, so early growth depends on you actively bringing people in.
Share your invite link
Every group has a short, secure invite link at /j/{token} that you can share anywhere — messaging apps, social media, forums relevant to your topic. Use the Web Share API button on mobile to send it in a couple of taps.
Post consistently early on
Groups are ranked by activity, then member count, then recency, so a handful of active early members matters more than a large silent one. Post regularly yourself in the first days so new joiners see a group that's alive, not empty.
- Share the invite link with people genuinely interested in the topic
- Post first to avoid an empty-feeling group
- Ask early members to invite one or two people each
Use your existing networks
Word of mouth from people already active elsewhere in Orbit, or from your own contacts outside the app, tends to bring in more engaged members than broad, untargeted sharing.
Frequently asked questions
- Does inviting more people directly improve my group's ranking?
- Member count is one ranking factor, but sustained activity matters more, so an engaged smaller group can outrank a larger inactive one.
- Can I promote a paid group the same way as a free one?
- Yes, the invite link works the same for both; the join page simply shows the price and plans for a paid group before anyone joins.
- Is there a way to see how my promotion efforts are working?
- Watching your member count and activity levels over the days after sharing your link is the simplest way to gauge what's working.
