Muting notifications for a group

Last updated

A single active group can dominate your notifications. Muting lets you quiet that one group while everything else keeps notifying you normally.

Muting a group

Open the group, go to its menu and choose Mute notifications. This stops push and in-app alerts for new messages in that group specifically, without affecting any other group or your DMs.

What muting doesn't do

Muting doesn't remove you from the group or hide it from your group list — messages still arrive and can be read whenever you open the group, they simply won't trigger a notification.

Unmuting

Open the same group menu and choose Unmute to restore notifications for it. There's no time limit on a mute — it stays muted until you unmute it yourself.

When to mute vs leave

Mute a group you still want to be part of but that's too noisy right now. Leave a group entirely if you no longer want to be a member at all — muting doesn't affect your membership either way.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mute a direct message conversation the same way?
The mute control on a group's menu applies to that group; check the equivalent menu on a DM conversation for the same option.
Will I still see an unread badge for a muted group?
Muting stops notification alerts; unread indicators inside the app can still show new activity when you open it.
Does muting a group affect voice room notifications too?
Muting a group covers its notifications generally, including activity tied to that group's voice room.
