Troubleshooting

Fixing messages that won't send

Last updated

A message that sits there spinning or shows a failed icon usually means the connection between your device and Orbit dropped mid-send, rather than anything wrong with the message itself.

Likely causes

The most common cause is a brief connection interruption — moving between Wi-Fi and mobile data, a weak signal, or your device briefly sleeping. Less commonly, you may have been removed from the group, or the person you're DMing may have blocked you.

Steps to fix it

Try these in order.

  • Check you have an active internet connection
  • Tap the failed message to retry sending it
  • Refresh or reopen the group to reload the connection
  • Confirm you're still a member of the group by checking the member list or group menu
  • If it's a DM, note that being blocked doesn't show an explicit error — messages may simply stop being delivered without a clear failure notice

If it's just one group or one DM

If sending works fine everywhere except one group, check whether you're still a member — you may have been removed. If it's just one DM recipient, they may have blocked you, since Orbit doesn't show a distinct error message for that case by design.

If nothing sends anywhere

This points to a connection or app problem rather than anything group-specific. Close and reopen the app, check your connection is stable, and try again after a minute.

Frequently asked questions

Why didn't I get an error saying I was blocked?
Orbit doesn't announce blocks to the blocked person; a DM that silently stops delivering is one sign of it.
Will a failed message send automatically once I'm back online?
Retry it manually by tapping the failed message rather than assuming it will resend on its own.
Could a paid group I owe coins for cause sending to fail?
Sending is unrelated to coin balance; a coin shortfall only affects joining a paid group, not messaging within one you're already in.
