Free coins vs paid coins: what's the difference
Last updated
Your Orbit balance is a single number on screen, but underneath it is two separate ledgers: free coins and paid coins. They behave the same when spending, but very differently when it comes to withdrawing.
Where free coins come from
Free coins are the ones Orbit hands out rather than the ones you buy. Your 100-coin welcome bonus is free coins, and so are any giveaway wins, promotional credits or referral rewards.
Free coins spend exactly like any other coin inside the app — on group entry or cosmetics — but they never convert to cash. There is no way to move a free coin into your bank account, no matter how it was earned.
Where paid coins come from
Paid coins are coins you bought with real money through the store, or coins you received because someone paid coins to join a group you own. Both routes produce the same type of coin: withdrawable, subject to the withdrawal rules.
Why the split matters
The split exists so that promotional coins can't be turned into cash. If Orbit gave away free coins that were later withdrawable, giveaways and referral bonuses would effectively be printing money, which isn't sustainable for anyone.
Checking your balances
Your wallet and profile both show the free and paid figures separately, and the Earnings page shows specifically how much of your balance is withdrawable right now.
- Free coins: welcome bonus, giveaways, referral rewards
- Paid coins: purchases via Razorpay, group entry earnings
- Only paid coins ever qualify for withdrawal
Frequently asked questions
- Can I tell which type of coin I'm about to spend?
- Your wallet shows both balances at all times, so you can check before spending. Orbit itself always spends free coins first automatically.
- If I join a paid group with a mix of free and paid coins, what does the owner receive?
- The owner receives the same mix you paid with — the free portion arrives as free coins and the paid portion as paid coins. The type is preserved through the transaction.
- Do free coins expire?
- Free coins from your welcome bonus and most giveaways don't expire on their own, but always check the terms of any specific promotion, since some time-limited campaigns may state otherwise.
