How to copy a message on Orbit

Last updated

Sometimes you need to grab the exact wording of a message to paste elsewhere, and Orbit makes this a one-step gesture.

Long-press to copy

Press and hold any text message to bring up a menu with a Copy option. Tapping it copies the message's plain text to your device clipboard, ready to paste anywhere.

What gets copied

For text messages, the exact wording is copied without the sender's name or timestamp. For messages that include both text and media, only the text portion is copied; media itself needs to be saved separately.

On desktop

Right-click or use the message's menu button to find the same Copy option without needing a long-press gesture.

What you cannot copy

Voice note transcripts, if not shown as text, cannot be copied since there is no underlying text to select. GIFs and stickers also do not have copyable text.

Frequently asked questions

Does the sender know I copied their message?
No, copying a message is silent and does not notify anyone.
Can I copy a photo directly to my clipboard?
Photos are best saved to your device rather than copied as clipboard text; use the save or download option in the message menu.
Does copying work on messages in direct messages too?
Yes, long-press to copy works the same way in direct messages as in group chats.
