Group chat that stays organised as it grows
Group chat is the core of Orbit. Everything else — coins, invites, voice — exists to make a group of people talking to each other work better than it does in a general-purpose messenger.
This page is the practical tour: what a group can do, how to run one, and how paid groups work if you want to charge for access.
Creating and sharing a group
A group needs a name and a short description of who it is for. That description does more work than people expect — it sets expectations before anyone joins, which prevents most mismatches later.
Every group gets a unique invite link you can share anywhere. Links can be regenerated if one leaks, or disabled entirely if you want the group closed for a while. Sharing uses your device's native share sheet on mobile.
Conversation tools inside a group
Groups support the full message toolkit: threaded replies via swipe, emoji reactions, images and GIFs, voice notes with waveforms, link previews, and read receipts showing who has caught up.
- @everyone notifies the whole group when something genuinely matters.
- Live voice rooms let members talk without a scheduled call — you can see who is already in before joining.
- A 'new messages' divider marks where you left off, per group.
Running the group well
Owners can remove members, manage the invite link, and set the tone. The healthiest groups on Orbit tend to share three habits: a description that says who the group is for, an owner who is visibly present, and a willingness to remove someone rather than let a room slowly get worse.
Members can leave at any time without drama or notification, which is a feature — a group people feel trapped in becomes a group people resent.
Paid groups and the coin economy
Owners can charge Orbit coins for entry, either as a one-off for lifetime access or as a recurring weekly, monthly or custom-duration plan. Coins spent on entry credit to the owner's balance.
If an owner removes a member within seven days of them joining, the entry coins are refunded to that member automatically. After seven days they settle with the owner. The full rules are in our refund policy.
How many groups you can run
Free accounts can create up to three groups, which covers almost everyone. Members with a paid Orbit membership can create as many as they like, alongside the other membership benefits.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I invite people to my group?
- Open the group, use Share and copy the invite link, or share it directly through your device's share sheet. Anyone with the link can join, subject to any coin price you set.
- What if my invite link gets shared somewhere I did not intend?
- Regenerate it. The old link stops working immediately and a fresh one is issued. You can also disable invites entirely.
- Can I charge for access to my group?
- Yes. Set a coin price with a duration — lifetime, weekly, monthly or custom. Members see the price before joining and coins credit to you.
- Do members get refunded if I remove them?
- If you remove a paying member within seven days of them joining, their entry coins return to them automatically. After seven days the coins stay with you.
